Where to download

Use a release build unless you were asked for logs that need a debug build. Debug builds have -debug in their name, are only published on build.chrisaw.io and are not meant for daily use.

Which file?

Each build ships two images of the same system:

File Filesystem
RestlessOS-arm64-ab-<version>.img.xz ext4
RestlessOS-arm64-ab-<version>-erofs.img.xz EROFS, smaller

The EROFS image only boots on kernels with EROFS support. EROFS is part of the mainline Linux kernel since 5.4 (in staging since 4.19), and Google's GKI kernels (5.10 and newer) have it enabled. Older 4.x vendor kernels usually don't have it unless the vendor backported it. If you're not sure, use the ext4 image. Using EROFS in supported systems will give better performance.

Check your kernel with:

adb shell cat /proc/filesystems | grep erofs

No output means your kernel has no EROFS support, use the ext4 image.

Verify and extract

Each build has a .sha512sum file next to the images.

# Linux
sha512sum -c --ignore-missing RestlessOS-arm64-ab-<version>.sha512sum
# macOS
shasum -a 512 -c --ignore-missing RestlessOS-arm64-ab-<version>.sha512sum

Extract the image before flashing:

xz -dk RestlessOS-arm64-ab-<version>.img.xz

On Windows, use 7-Zip.
