Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

This page covers common questions about ChoreOps and the dashboard experience.

How does access control work in ChoreOps?

ChoreOps includes access controls so only authorized users can claim chores, request rewards, or approve actions.

Who can do what?

  • Kids can claim chores and request rewards if their Home Assistant user is linked.
  • Parents/Admins can claim, approve, and manage chores and rewards.
  • Unlinked users cannot interact with ChoreOps actions.

Can a kid approve their own chores?

No. Kids cannot approve their own or siblings' chores when signed in with their own Home Assistant account. Parents and Home Assistant admins have approval rights.

See Advanced: Access Control.

Is this only for kids?

No. You can use ChoreOps for any household members.

  • You can configure any household member in the managed profiles.
  • If an administrator is configured as a managed profile, they may be able to approve their own chores because of broader permissions.
  • For self-managed setups, consider automatic approval guidance.

What is the easiest way to reset or start over?

You have two options:

Option 1: Use the reset-all-data service

  • ChoreOps provides a service to reset status/history while keeping core configuration.
  • This action is destructive and cannot be undone.

See Reset all data service.

Option 2: Remove and reinstall the integration

If you want a complete fresh start, including chore and reward definitions:

  1. Remove ChoreOps from Settings → Devices & Services.
  2. Restart Home Assistant.
  3. Reinstall ChoreOps and configure again.

How do I troubleshoot ChoreOps issues effectively?

Use the troubleshooting workflow for logs, state checks, diagnostics, and issue reporting:
