I use the same environment with you, I found this mistake undefined symbol: php_json_encode

Because ubuntu's default json extension is dynamic extension, default php.ini of ubuntu loading /etc/php/7.2/cli/conf.d/20-json.ini

This will lead to load jwt before json, you can rm -rf /etc/php/7.2/cli/conf.d/20-json.ini, and add in php.ini

extension=json.so
extension=jwt.so

you can execute php example/hmac.php. it's ok.

make test still fail, But you can use it. make test problems I will solve it as soon as possible.
