As a project, we haven't looked to apply to GitHub sponsors since our expenses are $0. Individually, I've thought about it, but I do like keeping this as a side project and I like to be able to step away when I need a break.

ah. interesting. i'm glad i asked. i never thought of that perspective, when you mention you like to be able to step away. for me the sponsorship is a way to say "thanks for the awesome work. i know it takes time. here's a little i can do, sending a bit of money, ultimately money buys time, so you'll have more time to work on what you wanna work". it's a no-strings attached kind of money. i never thought of asking someone to solve my issues or implementing some features BECAUSE i'm donating money. not sure what's the consensus around that, but the word "Sponsor" might imply that i'm getting it wrong, yeah. anyways, thanks for taking the time to answer, and for Chart.js. i'll be donating no-strings attached the day you're deciding to go for it.

Thanks for that perspective @godbout. 😄 I sort of got the impression that GitHub encouraged "reward" tiers for more donations, but perhaps there is a way to set it up without that.

oh, now you remind me! yeah, when you decide to sponsor someone you choose a tier and it's clearly stated what you can expect. so it makes things very clear from the start. if you still feel like you "owe" someone something because they sponsored you, then maybe it's more a personal issue sorry 😅️

for example Composer (a gem in the PHP world) offers, for USD1,000 a month, "my thanks and gratitude". clear. Homebrew starts their tiers with "a warm fuzzy feeling for supporting the project" 😂️

so, i understand your concern, and i see your perspective, but at the same time thumbs up to GitHub for having given the possibility to both parties to make things very clear from the start!
