Got most packages building, except
control-center-unity, libcontrol-center not found
indicator-bluetooth, linker error
indicator-datetime, No package 'libedataserverui-3.0' found
nm-applet, compiling error

and I hadnt had the time to check whats really working and what is not, but I suspect gnome-settings-daemon isnt, since most setings are not applied...
manually starting helps, maybe the autostart does not work or it crashes early...
anyway, here's my .xsession-errors, it may help you tracking down some issues^^

Holy cow, that's a lot of commits. I'll probably cherrypick individual commits for merging.

So...here we go:

Commit 858a83b

  • Already merged

Commit d26d79c

  • Looks good

Commit 0e17c86

  • Looks good

Commit 90737b1

  • Looks good

Commit 254cffd

  • Okay, but I need to make sure that libgnome-control-center is built. I may need to port that patch manually

Commits f8ce3f9, c519792, 7ea05d3, 3e3fb9a, d4b869b, e18078c

  • The patches are there for compatibility with glib 2.34 and older. The patches will actually cause the build to fail when building with -Werror in the compiler flags

Commit db132e2

  • I'm pretty sure libunity will require an older version of libgee

control-center-unity, libcontrol-center not found

I'll need to fix gnome-control-center-ubuntu for this. I think the patch only needs to simple refreshing.

indicator-bluetooth, linker error

Doesn't sound too hard to fix :)

indicator-datetime, No package 'libedataserverui-3.0' found

Crap. I'll need to package an older version of evolution-data-server or remove the event notification functionality from indicator-datetime.

nm-applet, compiling error

Hopefully won't be too hard to fix. Ubuntu 13.04 uses the same NetworkManager version as Arch.

and I hadnt had the time to check whats really working and what is not, but I suspect gnome-settings-daemon isnt, since most setings are not applied...

Yeah...I ran into this earlier as well. During the removal of the fallback session in GNOME 3.8, some code for launching gnome-settings-daemon automatically was removed as well. I think this is why Ubuntu uses (will use) Upstart's user session features to launch gnome-settings-daemon in future Ubuntu versions. I don't know how to fix this in Arch yet.

Looks like appmenu-gtk is trying to call GTK_IS_TEAROFF_MENU_ITEM, which doesn't exist in GTK 3.8 anymore.

Thanks a lot for all the commits and finding the issues w/GNOME 3.8! It will definitely help with the porting process :)

EDIT: It'll probably be another hour and a half before I get home and start working on this.

no prob, I just had some time left to spend and the lecture at the university was quite boring, so I thought, I'd get started and see how far I'll get^^

Thanks for the all the PKGBUILDs! I didn't use them directly, but I took some of the changes. If you want me to put your name at the top of the PKGBUILDs, just let me know :)

Don't bother. I'm just glad I could help. But if you want to, you can put it in, I don't mind...
