Thanks for the suggestion, and for the pointer to umbrelOS. I looked into what an Umbrel app would involve, and I've decided not to support it for now. Here's why. Traefik Manager doesn't stand alone: it manages a Traefik instance, so an Umbrel app would have to ship Traefik with it. That's where it runs into umbrelOS itself. umbrelOS already runs its own reverse proxy, which serves the dashboard and puts every installed app behind its own login, and it owns ports 80 and 443. Traefik would have to sit beside that on alternate ports, and you'd need to forward 80 and 443 on your router to those ports before anything could be reached from outside, including Let's Encrypt's HTTP challenge. The result would be two reverse proxies on one box, competing for the same job. Umbrel's proxy would still decide how its own apps are reached, while Traefik handled a separate set of routes on non-standard ports. That's confusing to set up and easy to get wrong, and it's not the experience Traefik Manager is built for. It would also mean running Traefik without access to the Docker socket, so the Docker provider would sit empty. If you'd like a reverse proxy on Umbrel today, Nginx Proxy Manager is already in the Umbrel app store and is designed around these limits. And if you run Traefik on another machine, Traefik Manager works well there, installed with the I'll keep this open as an idea in case umbrelOS changes how it handles ports or its proxy. Thanks again for raising it. |
