STORM simulator
The STORM simulator can be accessed through the SPARTAN software in the MultiColorSPR repository. A simplified version is provided with the script simulate_particles_fromGT_1C.mat. The description below can also be found in the SPARTAN wiki.
Note that this simple simulator generates SMLM datasets using calibrated kinetics taken from single-dye measurements as described in Analyze dye photophysics. No tiff stacks are generated.
For more complex simulations, please see other packages such as VirtualSMLM or SuReSim
We provide a simple SMLM particle simulator that generates localization maps from ground truth models. The folder SMLM simulator contains all required files as well as a ground truth example. The simulator populates each simulated label with localizations according to measured distributions for photon count, localization precision, as well as on- and off-time
Select STORM Simulator from the SPARTAN menu.

- Load the ground truth. X,Y,Z coordinates (nm) in CSV format.
- Select the labelling efficiency, the number of noise molecules and press
Initialize. -
Previewwill show a randomly selected particle according from the initialized particle library.

- Select the number of particles to be simulated as well as the number of frames.
-
Start Simulationwill start the simulator. Depending on the size of the structures (i.e. the number of simulated molecules) this step will take some time. The progress is displayed as a progress bar. - Once the simulation finishes, you can look at the result by pushing
View Result. - If the results are satisfying, save the particles.
