Hello Handy developers,
I want to start by saying that Handy has been an incredible tool for me. I have a physical disability that makes typing difficult, and voice dictation has made using my computer much easier and more accessible.
While using Handy, I noticed that transcription was taking a very long time. After troubleshooting, I found that hardware acceleration was not being enabled automatically. I had to manually edit the configuration file to enable GPU acceleration by changing the accelerator settings and selecting my GPU device.
After enabling it, the difference was huge. Transcription became much faster and the experience became much more practical for everyday use.
The reason I am suggesting this feature is that not every user will know how to find configuration files, understand GPU acceleration settings, or troubleshoot issues like this. While I was able to solve it because I am comfortable with technology and searching for solutions, many users who rely on accessibility tools may not have that experience.
It would be great if Handy could include a simple hardware acceleration option directly in the settings, for example:
Hardware acceleration: On / Off
Accelerator type: Auto / Vulkan / CPU
GPU device selection: Auto / GPU 0 / GPU 1
This would make sure users can easily get the best performance from their hardware without needing to manually modify configuration files.
Thank you for creating Handy. It has genuinely helped me overcome a barrier with computer usage, and I believe adding this option would make the app more accessible and easier to use for many people.
