Celery

Lightweight wiki outlining some use cases for Celery to asynchronously handle tasks and distribute work across threads and machines.

Use cases

1. Adding a user to the newsletter subscription list on sign up
2. Spawning async task on Signup to send Email verification to our users. Right now we are calling all methods synchronous in the API.
3. Spawning async tasks to send any type of notification E-Mails (and in the future possibly desktop notifications) to users
4. Sending web push notifications to offline users. (This is debatable)
5. We can also leverage Celery for cron jobs (i.e. Periodic tasks)
6. We can use Celery for queuing mechanism (Like: AWS Simple Queue Service)
