Quieter, and no more wrong names flashing on the cover screen.

• Silenced chats stay silent — a message from a conversation or app you have muted no longer wakes the cover screen or leaves an icon on the clock. New switch, Notify for silent messages, off by default. Do Not Disturb is deliberately left alone: a lit 128×128 screen makes no sound.
• No repeat announcements — the cover screen no longer re-announces messages you have already seen when the app's process restarts.
• No stale envelope — an icon left lit by a process that died is now cleared.
• No wrong sender flash — the panel replaces the phone's own banner immediately instead of 300ms later, so an old name from the SMS database no longer appears first.

Only real messages now reach the cover screen, and any messaging app can be picked.

• Filtering — an app's own notifications (send failures, number verification, spam warnings, web pairing) no longer light the cover screen pretending to be messages.
• Group chats — the panel shows the chat's name, with the speaker in the preview. With message content switched off, it shows the chat name alone.
• Better sender names — read from the message itself rather than the notification title. Your own replies syncing back from another device are no longer announced at you.
• App picker — no longer limited to apps that can send a text. Messaging apps are detected and listed, with anything that has actually messaged you floated to the top. Apps switched on but never seen posting a message are marked so.
• Photos — a picture with no caption announces as "Photo" instead of a blank line.

Google Messages is the supported app; everything else is experimental.

First public build.

The CAT S22 Flip's cover screen only responds to a hardcoded list of stock packages, so the messaging app you actually use — Google Messages, the default SMS app on this phone, or anything else you install — can't reach the external display at all. A text arrives and the cover screen just keeps showing the clock.

Cover Notifier watches notifications from the messaging apps you pick and draws its own panel on the cover screen.

• Sender and preview parsed from the notification itself
• Picture messages announce as "Photo" rather than a blank or a placeholder glyph
• Setting to show the sender only, for a closed phone in a public place
• Per-app picker for which messaging apps to watch
