Newest Cider breaks with "error in process filter: No response handler with id nil found"

After upgrading Cider just now (20140912.503), cider-jack-in breaks with the above message.

Basically I have no REPL integration anymore. @bbatsov do you have any suggestions?

After updating (deleting? package-list-packages showed the update with a D) clojure-mode, I cannot reproduce this.

I can reproduce this with latest cider, if cider is byte-compiled to .elc

• Clojure cider/cider-nrepl "0.8.0-20140916.132358-17"

Please do note, that the error seems to happen only if cider is byte-compiled. As soon as I delete my *.elcs, I can use cider normally.

This is because the macro nrepl-dbind-response is declared later in
the file. I see many more warnings like this with emacs -q and
byte-compile-file. #812 should fix that, but it's unlikely to be
related to your issue.

So it's something amiss with the byte-compilation not CIDER code. Good
news.

That's what I figured. Curiously, when upgrading to 20140916.627, the problem just went away for me.
Looks like you're doing some bleeding edge elisp there ;-)

FYI, I still have this issue with the current version. Interestingly, only when moving to a browser-repl (using chestnut).

The same happens for me. Deleting the file nrepl-client.elc file does not help.

I have the same issue with 20141018.1050 but only with chestnut in a browser repl using cider.
to reproduce I used the following steps:

lein new chestnut foo -- --om-tools
open 'foo/src/clj/foo/server.clj' and jack in 
compile the file & switch to it's namespace.
In the repl:
  (run)
  (browser-repl)

In a browser connect to http://localhost:10555/
The messages buffer will start displaying the following messages:

error in process filter: nrepl--dispatch-response: No response handler with id nil found
error in process filter: No response handler with id nil found

saving any changes to "foo/src/cljs/foo/core.cljs" will result in more error messages

Someone else with this problem? In my case I get this error:

error in process filter: if: No response handler with id 5 found

I tryed remove the compiled files from cider, but this don't resolved the issue.

@bbatsov I see the issue. I enable log for nrepl (setq nrepl-log-messages t) but I don't see nrepl-messages buffer.
