Log message stats on shutdown and startup

I'd like to see number of messages stored in the broker on shutdown and startup, it gives me the ability to verify any potential maintenance done didn't result in message loss (e.g. moving to a bigger partition, moving to a different host etc). We already log quite a bit on startup and shutdown, just not the number of messages.
