etop currently evaluates a focused query subset against the selected exporter's in-memory session samples. It does not connect to a Prometheus query API or implement full PromQL semantics.
This proposal is for an optional Prometheus backend, making full PromQL and server-retained query ranges available inside the terminal UI while keeping direct exporter collection available.
