amble-home puts amaran (Aputure) Bluetooth-mesh studio lights into Home Assistant as real devices, on a small ESP32 board you flash from your browser. The README says what it is and why; this wiki is the detail.

Start here

  1. Boards: which board to buy, and which not to.
  2. Installing: from the bag to a box on your Wi-Fi, with the buttons and ports for each board.
  3. Importing: getting your fixtures and mesh keys onto the box, from your amaran account or the desktop app's database.
  4. Home Assistant: what appears there, what each control does, and how to reach the lights from Alexa, Google Home or Siri.

When you need it

  • Lights: which amaran and Aputure fixtures run through amble-home today, which should, and which cannot.
  • Updating: how a box gets a new release, and what it keeps.
  • Troubleshooting: what goes wrong at each step, how to recover a box, and how to report a problem.

For people who work on it

  • Developers: how it works, how to build and test it, and how to contribute.
  • Lineage: where the mesh knowledge came from, and who built what.

Two rules the whole project keeps

  • The amaran app stays in charge of your mesh. amble-home never pairs, removes or renames a light. You do that in the app and re-import. The box is one more node on your mesh, reading and driving the lights beside the app.
  • Your keys stay yours. The mesh keys and fixture list travel from your browser to the box over your own network and are kept on the box. They never go to the project, to a log, or anywhere else.
