Comments can contain math code that is rendered by Mathjax, just as posts can. (On sites where Mathjax is enabled, such as Physics and Scientific Speculation.)
However, if a comment is edited and the comment, after the edit, contains such math code (whether or not it did before the edit), that is left unrendered.
Reloading the page causes the comment to be re-rendered, but that shouldn't be a required step.
This is an annoyance, but there's a workaround (reload) so I'm marking this lower priority.
