This PR will close #22. It was tricky a bit to enable Travis because of the Mono bugs with some of the new Xunit versions, but I've finally managed to do it. Meanwhile I've found that Mono doesn't fully support .NET 4.6 features such as Array.Empty<T>, so I replaced it with an empty array literal.

This PR also includes two first commits from #26, because I want to check how GitHub will sort that out (it's interesting whether the commit list will change after merging #26 or not). Please review but not merge anything without my direct intervention.
