Hi,

Brand new to Ubuntu, I ran the provided Linux 1.2.6 install script (thanks very much for that!) to install YTuner on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS. It actually took a couple tries because the server couldn't resolve github.com at first, but eventually the install seemed to succeed because the service starts as it should. But ytuner.log shows:

Where would I begin to debug this? I verified that systemd-resolved is disabled.

First of all try to check connection with http://de2.api.radio-browser.info/ services.
Try to run terminal and execute: wget http://de2.api.radio-browser.info/json/countries. Did you get JSON countries file?

Am I correct that v1.2.6 of YTuner expects all favorites stored on the amp to be in the stations.yaml file

YAML or INI file, but some devices store their bookmarks (know as Favourites) in build-in memory and they don't care about stations.ini file content. By default stations.ini file content is displayed by AVR as "My Stations" sub-menu and bookmarks as "Favouries" but you can change it with avr.ini file settings :

YTuner refuses to play favorites

YTuner doesn't play anything. It just provides a radio station link for your AVR. The AVR itself connects to the radio station URL without YTuner.

But the curious thing is that I do not have this problem on the other 1.2.6 install on RPi, nor on 1.2.4 on Windows.

As you can see ... this is problem related to this machine only. Looks like some OS configuration issue... 🤔
BTW. YTuner v1.2.4 is obsolete. I stopped supporting M$ Windows and I wrote about the reasons... Use YTuner v1.2.6 with a real OS like Linux.

I am not sure where to go to debug, but I am thinking I should re-install. Would it be sufficient to just delete the YTuner directories and re-run the installer script for Linux?

YTuner does not require installation. Installer script is for newbies only.

I agree, a config issue. It works after I added nameserver entries to resolv.conf (I saw that I can add other nameservers in I think it was ytuner.ini). But I also accidentally had the number of radio-browser stations set to 1000. That might explain the long YTuner startup times I was experiencing.

Yes, the RPi and Ubuntu experiments are part of my journey away from Windows.

The question about playing favorites came up because of these log entries:

Enable=1 is indeed set, there are defintely direct links and at least one category in stations.* (yaml in my case). So I think this means the Denon is querying vTuner and YTuner is finding and reporting that the query is a dead link. I also have redirect set to the default 302, so I don't think there is any way I can fix that issue short of deleting the bad entries out of Denon stored favorites. Unfortunately I can't tell from the log which entries are dead, so I'll just have to try them to see which ones work. It's a bit confusing because the ones that don't work still produce a result on the AVR when selected, they just play the first entry in stations rather than the expected stored-in-Denon-memory favorite.

Exactly... instead of this YTuner try to redirect to your first radio station of stations.ini/yaml file.

You can run Wireshark and try to sniff for HTTP frames going out from your Denon. This way you will find the links that Denon is trying to connect to.

Something strange is happening on Ubuntu though. Only Ubuntu returns vTuner errors on everything stored in the amp that is not in the stations config file. With 2 exceptions, the RPi install finds all the vTuner entries that the Ubuntu install cannot. Any idea what would be different? YTuner works on the Ubuntu install otherwise, it just can't successfully fetch the vTuner entries that aren't specifically enumerated in the Ubuntu's stations config file.

I don't think the problem is with Ubuntu. There's likely a configuration difference compared to other Linux distributions you might be using. Check your OS's network and DNS configuration, as well as the DNS settings in YTuner. Perhaps some of your observations are simply coincidences with your Denon's current operations... 🤔
YTuner works out of the box with default config of almost any linux distro. Only Alpine Linux requires some extra attention to get YTuner working on it.
