Why does it force claude usage by writing to a claude folder? That's extremely limiting. Needs global support for the agent whatever the agent is.

The MCP server itself is already agent-agnostic — it speaks plain stdio and works with Cursor, Codex CLI, opencode, Continue, Zed, etc. The lock is in the installer (codegraph install), which only knew how to write ~/.claude.json + ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md.

I've put together a multi-target installer refactor on a fork: andreinknv/codegraph @ c5165e4. Happy to send it as a PR if useful to the maintainer.

What it does:

codegraph install now prompts a multi-select of detected agents (auto-checked for what's installed) and writes per-agent configs:

codegraph install --print-config codex            # dump snippet, no file writes

Architecture:

• New AgentTarget interface in src/installer/targets/types.ts — detect, install, uninstall, printConfig, describePaths, supportsLocation.
• Each agent is a single file under src/installer/targets/. Adding Continue, Zed, Windsurf is a new file + one line in the registry.
• The legacy config-writer.ts exports are preserved as @deprecated shims that delegate to the new Claude target — existing downstream importers don't break.
• TOML serializer for Codex is hand-rolled (no library dep) and scoped to just our [mcp_servers.codegraph] block — sibling tables and [[array_of_tables]] are preserved verbatim.
• 47 new tests: parameterized contract tests across all 4 targets (idempotency, sibling preservation, uninstall reverses install, partial-state recovery) + a dedicated TOML serializer suite. Suite went from 1117 → 1164 passing.

What it intentionally does NOT do:

• Doesn't change install-time semantics for existing Claude users — the on-disk layout is byte-identical, detect() correctly reports alreadyConfigured: true, re-running is a no-op.
• Doesn't add Continue/Zed/Windsurf yet — the first person to want one writes a single file in targets/.
• Doesn't change the runtime MCP server (it was already agent-agnostic).

thank you! if anyone interested how to do it, first uninstall the original as I read installing fork over it will not make fork global.

Though this command gives an error;

$ codegraph install --target=auto --location=local
error: unknown option '--target=auto'
$ codegraph --version
0.6.8

same with print-config:

error: unknown option '--print-config'

But 0.6.8 is the fork version because main installs 0.6.9
