🎉 OkHttp, Okio, Retrofit, and SQLDelight join Commonhaus!

Windermere, Florida - All remote – Jun 17th, 2026 – Today, the Commonhaus Foundation is pleased to announce that OkHttp, Okio, Retrofit, and SQLDelight join as member projects.

OkHttp is a open-source HTTP and HTTP/2 client for Java and Kotlin. It acts as the underlying networking engine for many Android apps and libraries because it significantly reduces request latency and saves bandwidth.

Okio is a modern I/O library for Android, Java, and Kotlin that makes it much easier to access, store, and process data.

Retrofit is a type-safe HTTP client for Android and Java/Kotlin developers. It dramatically simplifies network operations by allowing developers to define REST API interactions using simple Java or Kotlin interfaces.

SQLDelight is a robust Kotlin library that generates typesafe Kotlin APIs directly from your raw SQL statements. Instead of relying on traditional Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) tools, it acts as a translator and compiler that verifies your SQL syntax, schema, and migrations at build-time.

These projects started life at Square, later renamed to Block. Now at Commonhaus under the lysine.dev banner.

Jesse Wilson and Jake Wharton, come onboard at Commonhaus as leaders and primary maintainers of lysine.dev. On joining Commonahus, they say:

We’ve been working on our projects for years, and we’ve built a large community of contributors and users.

When we decided to leave Block, we knew we had to be thoughtful about governance. Our users have a lot of trust in us and we want to show them that our projects’ new home is dependable.

Commonhaus is stable, predictable, and worthy of that trust. It’s already home to the engineers and projects that power our world, and we’re proud to join them.

Jesse enjoys open source and has contributed to many projects including Glazed Lists, Guava, and Paparazzi. He works on Wasmo in Kitchener-Waterloo Canada and likes bikes, books, and dogs.

Jake is an Android developer at Skylight, and has been a habitual contributor to open source both professionally and personally for years. He enjoys science fiction, racing cars, and stringent consumer protection laws. Jake lives in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Go Pens!
