Description
SimpleX XFTP Server is the file transfer component of the SimpleX ecosystem. It provides secure, end-to-end encrypted storage and delivery of file attachments exchanged through SimpleX Chat. The server stores encrypted files without access to their contents, allowing users to self-host file transfers while maintaining privacy and full control over their infrastructure.
Related to #722
Why should this be added?
It complements the SMP Server by providing a simple, reproducible way to deploy the file transfer service, hence enabling a complete self-hosted SimpleX infrastructure with minimal setup effort.
Installation Notes
Deployment modes: Official installer script, Docker, or manual.
Dependencies: Ubuntu, domain name, TLS certificate.
Ports: TCP 80, 443. It would be useful to provide a toggle allowing users to select the server exposure mode: Clearnet only, Clearnet + Tor, or Tor only.
Database: None. Configuration is stored under /etc/opt/simplex-xftp, server state and logs under /var/opt/simplex-xftp, and uploaded files are stored in a user-configurable directory (commonly /srv/xftp).
Service: xftp-server (systemd or Docker).
Limitations: Official installer supports Ubuntu only.
