Help to install on 2015 macbook pro on 12.7.6

All I get is an error that says " cannot be opened because apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated'

That message is from macOS Gatekeeper, not an indication that your MacBook is unsupported.

For a 2015 MacBook Pro, make sure you downloaded sm64coopdx_macOS_Intel.zip from the official v1.5.1 release, not the ARM build. The Intel executable is x86_64 and supports macOS 11.0 or later, so macOS 12.7.6 should be compatible.

On macOS Monterey:

1. Move sm64coopdx.app to Applications and try opening it once.
2. Open System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General.
3. Unlock the panel and click Open Anyway next to sm64coopdx.
4. Confirm Open in the warning dialog.

You can also try Control-clicking the app and selecting Open.

This creates an exception only for this app; there is no need to disable Gatekeeper globally. Apple documents the same procedure here: https://support.apple.com/102445

If the next message says that the app is “damaged” or mentions an unsupported architecture, please post that exact message because it would be a separate problem.
