Explorecourses Scraper

This tool scrapes all the data from ExploreCourses into a MongoDB database.

Payload

  • scrape.rb uses an HTML scraping approach.
  • parser.rb uses an XML approach based on a dump of the ExploreCourses database through their API. You can get a copy of the latest XML here

Requirements

This script uses the following gems

  • mechanize - headless browsing
  • mongo - Ruby API for storage in MongoDB
  • nokogiri - XML parsing

In addition, MongoDB is used to store information, so it should be running in the default location (port 21027) on your machine.
