[5.x]: Variant is not visible in the element index after creating it #4191

What happened?
Description
When I create a new product and then create its first variant, after saving the variant, it doesn't show up in the element index. See the following screen recording:

The footer of the element index for the variants correctly shows 1-1 of 1 product variant, but the the list is empty. Only after reloading multiple times does the variant card show up.
