If another data point matters, I came to the exact same conclusion for myself. Thanks for all the work on the tool, and glad the ecosystem has evolved. |

I originally built dovi_convert to convert Dolby Vision Profile 7 files to Profile 8.1 for playback on my devices. Recent developments are changing that.
AetherEngine now provides a playback path for Profile 7 with FEL, and players such as Rivulet have started integrating it. Support is still evolving, but this removes the need for conversion in my own workflow.
Technical details on how AetherEngine accomplished this can be found here:
https://aetherengine.superuser404.de/reference/formats/#dolby-vision-signaling and
https://github.com/superuser404notfound/AetherEngine/blob/main/docs/dolby-vision-fel.md
As I no longer have a personal need for dovi_convert, development is paused for now. The tool remains available for anyone whose setup still requires Profile 8.1., as is.
Feel free to fork and continue development as you see fit. If someone seriously considers picking it up, I am willing to share all my internal roadmaps, research, and feature specs I have worked on before making this decision.
Thanks to everyone who has used the tool, reported issues, and contributed.
