Customizable Ebooks
Personalized books are books that allow you to replace names of characters in a story with names of friends, family, enemies, etc. They tended to be gift ideas for children, but other forms exist as well.
In the new age of information (and Kindle), more and more people are buying and publishing eBooks because of the decreased cost of production.
My idea is to create customized or personalized eBooks, which we could hopefully take to production and market within the time allotted to us in the semester.
This idea is meant to be simple and easily finished. With the decreased cost of publishing an eBook, it should be easy with minimal capital to start offering this service. As such, if this idea is adopted, I would expect profitability during the semester.
Using books in the public domain, we can identify main characters of each book and provide an purchasing platform that allows a customer to substitute names into the story. We will build an automated process to do the text substitution and produce the eBook, which the customer can then download to a device or gift to a friend.
One of the harder parts of this service will be marketing. As such, we may have a person or team devoted to marketing specifically, or start doing development and switch people over to marketing. Most of the purchases would likely be gift ideas, so marketing would likely focus on that.
The technologies involved in this server will vary, as we will have a web server and automation scripts, as well as any other programs that we find necessary.
There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of books in the public domain in the USA. Some popular titles include:
- Pride and Prejudice
- The Count of Monte Cristo
- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
- Little Women
