Timeline App

As the name suggests, this would be an application for creating timelines, which would have numerous practical applications in the world. These timelines would be similar to the ones you may have seen in history class, but much more interactive and detailed. You could click on an event and view images and detailed descriptions including links to related events.

There would be two parts to this application. First, users would be able to make an account and start creating their own timeline. They would start by adding as many past events as they want, and then they can update it with new events. This would be an effective way for organizing photos and journal/blog entries. There would also be a social aspect to this; by connecting with friends, the users can compare their timelines with others'. I would find it very fascinating to see what series of events led to me and my wife meeting for the first time.

Second, there would also be large, wiki-style timelines that all users could collaborate on. These would be timelines that affect everybody such as world history, the histories of individual nations or corporations, important figures, etc. I have a vision of being able see clearly on one screen what was happening around the world on the day that I was born. This would be an effective tool for history classes, and there would be great applications for ancestry work as well.

This is a project I have been thinking about for a while and plan to definitely finish one day. I would love for this class to be a place to get it started, and I hope others can see the exciting and fascinating possibilities.
