Choose Your Own Adventure Book

Wanna gain some marketable experience for employers? Wanna build something that could make a radical difference in the world? Then consider this fun project.

###Main Idea What if the static books of today could be transformed into dynamic books where plots change and develop as the user makes choices?

The Pitch

This project could change the book writing process and the whole book reading experience. This simple yet powerful app would create “choose your own adventure” type books by combining the idea of Google Docs and version control. These books will be made open sourced books where they are constantly modified by a collaborative effort of authors/editors/contributors who would be able to navigate through the chapters of the book to update/add/delete portions of the book. Versioning conflicts would naturally occur, but instead of resolving them, decision tags will be created that would allow the story to branch in new directions so that users/readers are faced with constant decisions that effect the flow of the story and will allow them to experience books in a whole new way that will turn normal pleasure reading into a much more interactive and engaging experience where readers can consider the seemingly endless possibilities of the story that they are involved in.

Skills To Be Developed

This tool would function best as a web app. This class is one of the few the offer the chance to gain experience with languages and frameworks that are highly marketable to employers. Therefore it would be ideal to build this web app in the preferred language of the internet - JavaScript(so tired of Java haha),and to take advantage of the opportunity that this class gives us to use project time to build familiarity with popular frameworks, in this case being JavaScript based ones such as AngularJs,ReactJs,ect.
