Digital Board Game Framework
Playing together is a great way to build relationships, make new friends, and even strengthen families. However, opportunities to sit down and play together are infrequently found and even more infrequently taken advantage of. But what if we created a system that utilized the technology of the digital age to create a more captivating experience? Imagine people sitting down together to play a game of Go Fish, sitting around a central computer and using their own devices as their hands. But we could move beyond. You could have entertaining effects that a normal deck of cards cannot provide. You can add fun rules that would be too complex for people to keep track of. If you wanted to switch to another game, it's as simple as pushing a button. No setup, no cleanup, no pieces to lose, and no extra storage space required. We could bring the board game into the digital age.
We'll build the framework and libraries to allow for games to be created and played as described above. By framework, I mean something that will do the nitty-gritty technical stuff like establish communication between clients. Libraries will be used to define standard interactions so that other programmers don't have to, like how cards work or sending chat messages between players. As part of the MVP we will also create a game or two to demonstrate the capabilities of the system.
