What it is now

Scroll Thief (working title) is a 3D puzzle/adventure game where the player controls a ninja whose mission is to sneak into an enemy shogun's estate and steal his battle plans (a scroll).

Let's enhance and expand it

This game was made with very restricted resources (mostly time and manpower), and many features that were originally intended had to be cut. There are also a couple of bugs in the engine, which was built from scratch.

Desired improvements

  • Add music and sound effects
  • Add combat functionality
  • Add more character animations, e.g. idle loops, jumping, attacking
  • Add visual feedback when player takes damage
  • Display player's current health
  • Fix bug/s in collision detection
  • Optimize the 3D model (.obj) parser; it seems slow, and loading the game takes a long time
  • Add more rooms, and give player more choices
  • Add visual effect for projectile impact
  • Anything else we think of that would improve the player experience

Details

The game is written in Java, and uses OpenGL. Currently, it supports Xbox controllers for Windows, but it might be a good idea to add keyboard controls too, so people who don't have access to a controller can still play. The more people on the team, the more ambitious we can be with the enhancements.
