Everything you need, nothing you don't. This is the same manual that ships inside the app (⌘?), for reading in your browser.
Relay is a chat app for IRC — the internet's original group chat, running since the late '80s and still alive. You connect to a network (like Undernet), join channels (public rooms whose names start with #), and talk. Nobody makes an account for you: pick a nickname, connect, and you exist.
Rule of thumb for the whole app: everything is reachable two ways — type a /command, or right-click the thing.
- Getting Started — add a server, every settings field explained
- Settings Explained — every field and switch, tab by tab
- Connecting & Reconnecting — status dots, auto-reconnect, on-connect commands
- The Sidebar — badges, ordering, right-click menus, Dock icon
- Channels — joining, topics, modes in plain words, roles
- Talking — messages, actions, colors, search, link previews
- Composer Tricks — Tab completion, history, flood protection
- Private Messages — DMs and instant whois
- Notifications & Quiet — what pops and how to silence it
- Blocking People — /ignore vs /silence
- Private Sessions — incognito mode
- The X Service — Undernet's channel bot, fully integrated
- ASCII Art — the 🎨 catalog and your own art
- All Commands — the full slash reference
- Keyboard Shortcuts
- Troubleshooting
