The first public beta of IdealOS โ€” an Arch-based operating system for everything you do: work, create, learn, play. Every common driver works out of the box. Installable on real computers today.

  • ๐ŸŽฎ Gaming ready โ€” Steam, Lutris, Wine, GameMode, MangoHud, Gamescope
  • ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ KDE Plasma with the full IdealOS look: wallpapers, icon theme, branded login and boot splash, light/dark aware apps (verified crash-free in CI)
  • ๐Ÿงญ Branded installer โ€” all steps visible, dual-boot detection, and a "safe graphics (nomodeset)" recovery boot entry
  • ๐Ÿ›๏ธ IdealOS Store โ€” curated open-source-first catalog + live search across all of Flathub and the official Arch repos, with real app icons
  • ๐Ÿ”„ Software Update โ€” review the changelog, confirm, update; the keyring refreshes automatically so updates don't fail
  • โœจ Silent, branded boot; smooth, lightweight interface

Download & install

ISOs exceed GitHub's release file limit, so they are published as workflow artifacts:

โ†’ Actions โ†’ Build IdealOS ISO โ†’ newest green run โ†’ download idealos-iso (requires a GitHub account)

  1. Write idealos-beta-x86_64.iso to USB with Ventoy or balenaEtcher โ€” or boot it in a VM (UEFI recommended).
  2. Click Install IdealOS on the live desktop and follow the steps.
  3. After installing, keep current from IdealOS Store โ†’ Updates โ€” updates are small; you never re-download an ISO.

Beta notes

  • This is a beta: expect rough edges, and please report them โ€” hardware reports (even "everything works") are hugely valuable. โญ
  • NVIDIA uses the open-source nouveau driver (works on all cards); a guided proprietary-driver option is planned.
  • If a machine ever shows a black screen, use the safe graphics (nomodeset) boot entry.
