This reverts commit c99322d.
Run `go build` with this flag: -ldflags="--extldflags=-Wl,--compress-debug-sections=none" It disables the compress-debug-sections feature in ld, which seems to be buggy in ld version 2.26 (ubuntu1604 version) and causes the build to fail.
