can provide an example video encoded with ffmpeg with and without "-movflags faststart" as part of the encoding process. sans faststart works fine in loopfindr but faststart videos does not. wouldn't be a big deal but i'm batch processing a large amount of video and would like to use the output for an installation as well as for loopfindr-ing.

Huh, sounds like it's an issue with openframeworks video library. You might want to bring it up with them. If you're doing batch processing, I've got a command line executable that will spit out a csv with the indeces of the loops if you're interested. It's significantly faster. I could also combine it with something like ffmpeg + gifsicle to actually spit out the gifs if you want.
