Subtitles 1.21.1
- Hide after, better worded in eleven languages. In Settings ▸ UI ▸
Subtitle Box, the section's description now says plainly that it is
the box that stays up, not the picture under it, and the sentence under
the preview no longer borrows another setting's word. Chinese gives the
slider a name that pairs with Clear after's.
Subtitles 1.21.0
- Choose how long the box stays up. Settings ▸ UI ▸ Subtitle Box has
a new Hide after slider, under Blur. Once nothing new is said, the box
fades after 4 to 20 seconds; 4 is the default, as before. - The offer to save the transcript still comes. With a long Hide
after, the ⌥ stack waits for the box to fade and for the offer to save
the transcript to run its course before it is forgotten, even past
Clear after.
Subtitles 1.20.0
- Copy a box's text. A Copy button shows at the top end of the box
while the pointer is over it and the box takes clicks: with ⇧ or ⌥
held, or with Pointer Reveal and Click-Through off. One click puts the
box's text on the clipboard, with the other language under it when both
are shown, and the button says Copied. The words around it fade out so
it stands clear of them, and with a name tab it sits level with the tab
instead. - Copy from the ⌥ stack. Each box in the stack shows the same button
while the pointer is over it. - The search pill brightens. Under the pointer, the ⌥F search pill's
symbol, placeholder and hint come up a step, as the Copy button's
symbol and word do.
Subtitles 1.19.0
- Line up the ⌥ stack. Settings ▸ UI ▸ Recent Boxes has a new Align
choice: Start, Center or End. Start lines the recent boxes up on the
side their lines begin, the left for most languages and the right for
Arabic and Hebrew, so short and long boxes read down one edge. End lines
them up on the other side, and Center keeps them centered on the live
box, as before. Start is the new default. - Changes show at once. Changing Align or Text in Settings while ⌥
holds the stack up redraws it on the spot, and a new alignment slides
the boxes across rather than jumping. - The search stays centered. The ⌥F search pill stays in the middle
of the live box whichever side the boxes take.

- Resize the box by its edge. Whenever the box can be moved, with ⇧
held or with Pointer Reveal and Click-Through off, drag its top or bottom
edge to change how many lines it holds. It steps a line at a time, a
pill in the middle reads Max 3 Lines or however many, and the text and
the glow soften behind it. Letting go sets Lines in Settings. - Pointer Reveal and Click-Through. The menu item that was Fade Away
Under Pointer, and the Settings section that was Pointer Reveal, now say
what turning it off does: the box stops fading under the pointer, takes
the clicks that land on it, and drags without ⇧. A dashed outline shows
when the pointer is over it. The demo in the welcome window does the
same. - More than five lines. Lines, under Settings ▸ UI, has a number field
beside its slider. The slider still goes from 1 to 5, and the field takes
up to 99. - The box grows away from the screen's nearest edge. Moved into the top half of
the screen, the box keeps its top edge where you left it and grows
downward. In the bottom half it keeps its bottom edge, as before. - Steadier dragging. The box stays where you hold it while it grows or
shrinks under the pointer. - ⇧ eases the reveal. With the reveal on, pressing ⇧ closes the hole
under the pointer smoothly instead of snapping the box solid, and letting
go opens it the same way. - The ⌥ stack waits for the box. A box that has just filled stays in
the live box for a moment so it can be finished. It now joins the stack
when it leaves the live box, rather than appearing there while you are
still reading it. - An even fade at both ends of the stack. Scrolled back, the bottom of
the ⌥ stack fades as gradually as the top, blur included. - Animation at the display's own rate. The reveal, the glow and the
box's other animations now follow the screen's refresh rate, 120 Hz on a
ProMotion display, instead of a fixed 60.
Subtitles 1.17.2
- The welcome window's demo in four more languages. With Subtitles in
Polish, Swedish, Danish or Norwegian, the demo in the welcome window now
plays in that language too, rather than in English.
Subtitles 1.17.1
- No update offered for a version you already have. If you installed a
newer Subtitles yourself after the app had found an update, the menu could
keep offering that older version. It now forgets an update that isn't
newer than the copy running, and clears it when a check finds nothing new. - The welcome window's demo lists the new languages. Its Language /
Models and Translate To menus show Polish and Swedish, and Danish and
Norwegian under Experimental, as the app's own menus do.
Subtitles 1.17.0
- Polish and Swedish. Both are in Language / Models, and in Translate
To. They use the same 633 MB download as Multilingual, so if you already
use Multilingual there is nothing more to download. Swedish can't be
translated to or from Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Arabic or Hindi, which
Apple's translation doesn't offer for it; every other pair works. - Danish and Norwegian, as experimental. They are under a new
Experimental heading in Language / Models. Expect more mistakes than in
the other languages, and choose them there rather than leaving them to
Multilingual, which can mistake them for German, English or Swedish.
Like Swedish, they can't be translated to or from Russian, Ukrainian,
Polish, Arabic or Hindi. - Subtitles in four more languages. The app's menus, windows and
messages are now in Polish, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian too, chosen
under Settings ▸ Language or following your Mac. - Translate To shows what can't be translated. A language that can't
be translated from the language being spoken is greyed out: the one you
chose, or with Multilingual the one last heard. If the speaker changes to
a language that can't be translated into your choice, the captions stay
in the original language while they speak.

- See where transcripts go. Next to the Save Location popup, under
Settings ▸ Transcript, the folder transcripts are saved to is shown
with its icon; click it to open it in Finder. With Last Used Folder it
says which folder that is, Documents until a transcript has been saved. - A chosen folder shows its name again. After choosing a folder for
Save Location, the popup was blank. It shows the folder's name again.
Subtitles 1.16.0
- Save transcripts without being asked. Turn on Save without asking,
under Settings ▸ Transcript, and when the box would offer to save a
transcript it saves it instead, to the Save Location in the chosen
format. The box says where it went, with a Show in Finder button and
the same bar. If the session carries on after a pause, the same file is
kept up to date rather than a new one started. If the file can't be
written there, the box asks as before. - Pick a format. A new Format setting, also under Settings ▸
Transcript, keeps Last Used Format or sets Plain Text, Markdown or
SubRip as the one Save Transcript… offers first and Save without
asking writes.
