Question for Daniel

Daniel, genuine question for you: what is keeping you from releasing more often?
Is there anything us (the community) can help you with? Reading your posts/newsletter I get the feeling that you want to do it but it looks like you don't get around to it or something. You do know that we're ok with non-polished/some-things-are-still-broken product, right?

SpelunyCoder no offence, but while I appreciate your desire for a new version, I don't agree that a still broken product is what I want. So not part of the "we" you mentioned. Maybe if it was put out as a beta for testing I'd fee differently.

I don't think the choice is between a stable release and a broken one, because the version we're all on is already the broken one.

7.40.4 shipped on 14 August. Since then 312 issues and 17 PRs have been closed, and the only things that have landed in the repo are an issue template and a contributor-credit update to the README. I don't doubt the fixes exist in Daniel's own tree, and close-with-credit is fine by me. The gap is that two months of accepted work isn't installable, so the only version anyone can actually run is the one with the broken hooks (#2299, #2286), the incorrect logic (#2310, #2320), and modules that ship without ever being invoked (#2154).

I'm not asking for a rushed release of new features. I'm not interested in a location monitor in the statusline or video editing. I'd like fixes that have already been accepted to reach an install without waiting for everything else to be ready too.

Robert, I think we want the same thing. You don't want a broken product shipped and I don't want to keep running the one we have.

That's a fair assessment. I also realize that LifeOS is being offered free of charge to the community and feel pretty grateful to Daniel for making it available. I'm retired and not using LifeOS to run a business or create code so I'm less dependent on it then others may be. I would imagine that has something to do with my willingness to be patient with Daniels timeline for bringing out the new version thought I am looking forward to it.

I've beent thinking about this one for a while and posted PR #2354 to potentially address fixes between major releases, with minimal extra work from Kai/ Daniel.
