Monthly Azure Spend Review — Dapr Docs & Blog SWAs

Target date: May 21, 2026 (one month after migration)

What to check

1. Go to Azure Cost Management for the active Dapr subscription
2. Filter by the resource groups used for docs, blog, and identities
3. Review cost breakdown by resource — identify which SWAs are most expensive and why

Questions to answer

• What is the total monthly spend across all docs/blog/identity RGs?
• Which individual SWAs have the highest cost? (bandwidth, API calls, etc.)
• Are any Standard-tier SWAs underutilized and candidates for downgrade to Free?
• Is the managed identity incurring any unexpected cost?

Current SKU policy (reference)

Only 3 SWAs are Standard (all others Free):

• Root docs site (docs.dapr.io) — always Standard
• Blog site (blog.dapr.io) — always Standard
• Latest explicit version SWA — Standard until next release, then downgrade

Context: Old Subscription Resource Inventory

For context on overall spend, the old Dapr Tests subscription contained far more than docs/blog SWAs. The docs/blog SWAs were a tiny fraction of the total cost. Here's what was in the subscription:

SWA Standard pricing is /app/month + .20/GB bandwidth overage. Even with 7 Standard SWAs, that's ~/month — a rounding error compared to the AKS longhaul test clusters, SQL databases, Cosmos DB, and associated CI/CD testing infrastructure.

New subscription (docs/blog only)

The new subscription contains only docs and blog resources (3 resource groups). Expected monthly cost should be dramatically lower since no test infrastructure was migrated. The May 2026 cost review will confirm actual spend.
