A package is a directory with a zinc.pkg.yaml manifest file.

Recorded facts

Zinc records enough to locate a package and read its manifest:

Field	Purpose
name	Package identifier.
version	Package version string.
root	Installed path on disk.
source.uri	Source URI Zinc can resolve.
source.ref	Source git ref.
source.path	Path within the source repository.

Managing packages

zn pkg install ./openai-responses --global
zn pkg list
zn pkg remove openai-responses

Boundary note

Zinc records enough to find a package and read its manifest. The package owns software behavior, settings interpretation, and output schemas.
