We're excited to share the latest releases, feature enhancements, tweaks, and fixes across our services. Here's what's new:

Exploring metadata enrichments in practice

DataCite is developing community-driven DOI metadata enrichment processes as part of an ongoing, multi-faceted effort to improve the quality and utility of the DataCite metadata store and enhance discovery, reuse, and reporting across the research ecosystem. We’re excited to share our latest enrichments developments, which include:

• The release of our first set of enrichments, produced through a collaboration with COMET (Collaborative Metadata) and available at a new enrichments endpoint of the DataCite REST API.
• A preview of enriched DataCite DOI metadata records enhanced with the initial enrichment set, also available via the REST API.

Find resources based on the geographic location of affiliated organizations

We’ve added an affiliation-country parameter to the DataCite REST API, allowing you to filter DOI results based on the geographic location of ROR-identified organizations found in creator and contributor affiliation metadata. Enter any country’s ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code in the parameter to retrieve results for organizations located in that country. You can also retrieve results for multiple countries simultaneously by entering multiple country codes separated by commas. For example, try the following requests:

• Affiliations in Ethiopia: https://api.datacite.org/dois?affiliation=true&affiliation-country=ET
• Affiliations in Canada: https://api.datacite.org/dois?affiliation=true&affiliation-country=CA
• Affiliations in Ethiopia or Canada: https://api.datacite.org/dois?affiliation=true&affiliation-country=ET,CA

This querying tool leverages Research Organization Registry (ROR) geographical metadata in combination with ROR IDs in DataCite DOI creator and contributor affiliation metadata. ROR is actively maintained through a centralized, community-based curation process. Read more about ROR and how to submit an addition or update to the registry at https://ror.org/registry/.

Tweaks and infrastructure improvements

• We added shortcuts to the new Metadata Dashboard to Fabrica, making it easier to find your organization or repository’s dashboard and explore ways to improve your metadata.
• When creating or updating a repository account in Fabrica, the software field is now required. This helps us understand what integrations our community is using and provide more targeted support.
• We’ve updated Fabrica to support our new membership model: “Country” is now required for Member and Consortium Organization accounts, since our updated fee structure is differentiated based on geographic location. Also, the "Estimated DOIs” field is no longer required when creating a new Consortium Organization, since fees are no longer based on registration volumes.
• We fixed a bug where Consortia logged in to Fabrica could sometimes not view Draft state records within their consortium. (When logged in as a consortium, draft state records may not be accessible in Fabrica datacite#2506)
