Cannot start project when cron files are defined

I constantly get:

stderr='failed to solve: executor failed running [/bin/sh -c { cat /etc/cron.d/*.cron; } | crontab -u ${username} -]: exit code: 1'

When I delete my cron files, the project runs.

I copied the examples from the README.

I just ran through this on a new project project and was unable to reproduce the error.

The error is generated when the addon is trying to pipe the contents of cron files into crontab.
TBH, bash is not my strong point and it was a copy/paste job from slashdot that achieved what I wanted.

I'll need some time to debug the issue. Can you confirm what enviroment you're using?

• DDEV version
• OS version
• Docker type (docker desktop, colima, ...) and version

Test

1. Start new ddev project

   ddev config --project-type=php --docroot public --create-docroot

2. Start DDEV

   ddev start

3. Add ddev-cron and restart

   ddev get ddev/ddev-cron
   ddev restart

4. Check current crontab status; should be empty as we haven't set anything yet.

   ddev . crontab -l

5. Rename example for testing.

   mv .ddev/web-build/time.cron.example .ddev/web-build/time.cron

6. Restart DDEV to allow addon to initialize time cron job

   ddev restart

7. Confirm job was added to cron

   $ ddev . crontab -l
   #ddev-generated
   * * * * * date | tee -a /var/www/html/time.log

8. Confirm job is running.

   • ✅ A file should be created in the project root called time.log
   • ✅ Every minute, this file will be updated with the current time (UTC).

Working on WSL 2 (Ubuntu)

• DDEV version: 1.22.3 (ddev -v)
• Docker: 24.0.6 , build ed223bc (docker -v)

Working on Win11

• DDEV version: 1.22.0 (ddev -v)
• Docker: 24.0.6 , build ed223bc (docker -v)

I'm on macOS:

• DDEV version v1.22.3
• docker 20.10.22

It works with the sample time.cron.example. I was able to get it running with the following cron fles:

• time.cron: * * * * * date | tee -a /var/www/html/time.log
• queues.cron: * * * * * /var/www/html/vendor/bin/drush advancedqueue:queue:process default | tee -a /var/www/html/drupal.log
• drupal.cron: */10 * * * * /var/www/html/vendor/bin/drush cron | tee -a /var/www/html/drupal.log`

But something about whatever was copied from the README didn't work.

So maybe this is a "closed, won't do" because it's just about adjusting Bash. Or fixing the examples in the README

So the addon is working but the examples are not? I know your a Drupal pro so I'll asume your are refering to the Drupal example.

I wasn't able to reproduce the crash by copying the Drupal example in a fresh Drupal 10.1.5 site.
Although it does have issues (targets older version of PHP)

queues.cron: * * * * * /var/www/html/vendor/bin/drush advancedqueue:queue:process default | tee -a /var/www/html/drupal.log

I got an error inside the container on a vanilla Drupal 10.1.5 site.

$  /var/www/html/vendor/bin/drush advancedqueue:queue:process default | tee -a /var/www/html/drupal.log
There are no commands defined in the "advancedqueue:queue" namespace.
