The Issue

Early draft.

Rendered at https://pr-500.ddev-com-fork-previews.pages.dev/blog/2025-review

TODO

  • Quotes from https://www.ironstar.io/devsurvey25/#almost-everybody-loves-ddev
  • More emphasis on the critical nature of the community contributions (add-ons, key improvements)
  • DDEV is open-source, community contributions are welcome in every corner. This year ... rpkoller, etc. Link to community trainings, etc.
  • More emphasis on quickstart tests, credit to rpkoller
  • Discussion of good and bad of AI usage
  • Re-check statistics. They seem questionable. More commits; should mostly equal PRs pulled.
  • Newsletter with link
  • Compare accomplishments to 2025 goals
  • Review Tyler36 suggestions on other blog, December 2025 newsletter #486 (comment)
  • Add omit-hostname-by-default info

Wish-it-had-been better

  • Applied for Google SoC got turned down
  • Got one community funded item on TYPO3 but all others rejected, not trying now. Program seems to be going in a direction not suitable for DDEV
  • Applied for Google Security training program, made finalist, didn't get accepted, but they said we'd be automatic finalists next time, but never heard from them again.
  • Confused about why organizations like TYPO3 Association and Drupal Association don't contribute.
  • Confused about why so few agencies contribute
  • I (Randy) wonder if I'm too aggressive with solving people's problems. Maybe they feel intimidated. Sometimes people just go away.

Documentation Improvements

  • Added Claude Code for Web environment configuration guide (#7838)
  • Migrated Vite setup documentation into DDEV docs (#7625)
  • Updated Docker connection failure explanations (#7833)
  • Added AGENTS.md with AI agent development guidelines (#7659)
  • Platform.sh to Upsun name change updates (#7673)

Testing Enhancements

  • Improved quickstart tests across multiple frameworks
  • Added CI tests for ddev-hostname with passwordless sudo (#7855)
  • Enhanced test reliability for Pantheon, TYPO3, Magento 2, and other CMSs
  • Fixed intermittent test failures across the board
  • Added disk cleanup before running tests (#7783)

It would be clearer to split the v1.25.0 changes into separate sections, listing everything together makes it harder to scan.
