First public release of agent-status — a macOS menu-bar monitor for Claude Code sessions. Zero network calls, ~15 MB RAM, ~0% CPU idle.

What's inside

  • Live menu-bar dashboard — morphing icon reflects the aggregate state across all sessions (idle / busy / waiting / error).
  • Per-session detail popover — open from the menu bar dropdown or a pinned per-session item. Shows:
    • Waiting — tool-aware templates that surface the actual command / question being approved (permission gate, AskUserQuestion, Task subagent).
    • Running now — every in-flight tool with live elapsed timer (handles parallel run_in_background: true Bash, parallel Agent calls).
    • Recent (last 10) — completed tool calls with ✓ / ✗ + duration.
    • AI title, last prompt / reply, tokens & cost, 60-second status sparkline.
  • Pluggable providers via a SessionProvider protocol. Claude Code ships today; Codex stub is wired but inert.
  • Optional LaunchAgent for autostart at login (Install from the gear menu in the dropdown).
  • Local-only — reads ~/.claude/sessions/<pid>.json and ~/.claude/projects/<encoded-cwd>/<sessionId>.jsonl. Nothing leaves your machine.

Install

  1. Download AgentStatus-v0.1.0.app.zip below.
  2. Unzip and drag AgentStatus.app to /Applications.
  3. First launch: right-click → Open (the binary is signed ad-hoc, so Gatekeeper will warn once).
  4. Optional: open the gear menu in the dropdown → Install LaunchAgent for autostart.

Tests

87 XCTest cases. Run with:

  • Apple Silicon and Intel Mac (universal). macOS 14+.
  • Ad-hoc signed. A Developer-ID-signed + notarized build is on the roadmap.
