The Problem

When a chat reaches its maximum length, the conversation ends without any warning. There is:

no indicator that you are approaching the limit

no percentage or token counter

no warning N messages before the end

no way to carry the conversation over into a new chat

no way for the assistant to access the previous chat — not even when the user explicitly asks it to

The Consequence

In a chat lasting several hours, a Python project ("NAS Conflict Scanner", roughly 1500+ lines, multiple modules) was being developed collaboratively. Mid-work, the chat was cut off.

Since then, the project has become practically unusable:

The assistant cannot read the old chat.

Every attempt to "continue" makes the assistant guess — and it produces code that does not match the original.

Specifically: a newly generated synology_common.py is incompatible in every core function with the real file (parse_blacklist, is_blacklisted, ensure_default_blacklist_suffixes, _prepare_write all have different signatures and return types). The script is therefore non-functional.

The user is forced to reconstruct the entire context manually — which, in long chats, is effectively impossible.

Why This Is Unacceptable

An assistant that is marketed for long technical work, yet fails precisely when the work becomes long, is unfit for professional use. The damage is not merely "loss of convenience" — it is lost work.
Concrete Requests

Visible length indicator (tokens or %) in the chat UI, available at all times.

Warning at least 10 % before the limit is reached, prominent and not dismissible.

Automatic summary of the conversation so far, which can be carried into a new chat.

"Continue chat" function that transfers the old history into a new chat (so the assistant can still read it).

Failing that: an Export button that outputs the entire conversation as a structured file — so users can at least continue manually.

Urgency

High. Without these features, any chat lasting more than a few hours is a risk of data loss — and is unpredictable for the user.

I would appreciate a response as to whether and when these points will be implemented.
