v1.0.0
AlterSend is now generally available. Send files directly between your devices — peer-to-peer, end-to-end encrypted, no accounts, no servers, no size limits.
Highlights
- Cross-platform — native apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android
- End-to-end encrypted — only your devices can read your files
- No size limit — send a 5 MB photo or a 500 GB video archive, same flow
- No accounts, no servers — pair two devices with a QR or join code, files transfer direct
- Open source — Apache-2.0
How it works
- Open AlterSend on two devices
- One shows a join code (or QR)
- The other scans or types it
- Files transfer directly, peer-to-peer
Discovery uses Hyperswarm (DHT); transfers run over Hyperdrive — encrypted, content-addressed, resumable.
Known limitations
- macOS DMGs are signed but not yet notarized — first-launch Gatekeeper warning requires right-click → Open. Notarization is in progress with Apple Developer Support
- Windows
.exeinstaller is unsigned — use the Microsoft Store link above for a signed build - Mobile receive only works while the app is open (iOS suspends background processes); desktop tray-mode is on the v2.0 roadmap
