Hello, is there possibility to somehow turn off/on visual map elements, as such sidewalks? Not sure, if they could be used as a Layer of map, which would be optional? We touch this topic discussing Dark theme, but generally I would love to have ability to simplify a bit Map. Not sure, if that would help also performance of the app, when all of these wouldnt need to been rendered. But when I thought about it, currently in my opinion, map detail in cruiser is near "hiking level" of details (having all layers off).. It could be good for motor-vehicles profiles @cruiser, to be able restrict amount of visual elements shown on map? |

@JimmyS83 Thanks for the suggestion. They are map elements, so their rendering can be controlled by the map theme. @MotoUKRider could put this or any map element as a map layer in the themes, Note: Map layer changes must be done the same way in all map themes: Motorider + Biker for VTM + Mapsforge. |

In the profile (theme) I use, I moved all pedestrian walkways to zoom level 18. Since I have the maximum automatic zoom set to 17, I can only see the sidewalks after manually changing the zoom to 18. For me, this is a simple and convenient solution, without the need for an additional switch. |

Turns out, that Layer separation is also Theme thing, which I didnt expect. Seeing positive reaction taking Walk/cycling details to the separate layer (to be able control them via different profiles differently, not only based on auto-zoom for all profiles), hopefully this would be also improved/offered to the users.. Discussion moved to the theme-topic |

I have re-worked the current VTM themes of Biker/Light/Night to include a better road-core/casing system (this will make it easier to change colours/sizes en-masse) and the "Dark" theme backs-off the cycleway/footway/paths to zoom=16 at present. I am wondering what we can call the new Layer? It needs to be simple and obvious(!) There is also the issue of "buildings" which add to the "clutter" in a dark map whilst in the city. From a coding point of view, adding items to a Layer option is easy - deciding what to add and what to call the Layer, less so 😆 |

At present, the "More road details" Layer displays the road-ref (aka: Garmin highway shield) boxes for Primary+Secondary Roads at zoom=12 and for Motorway+Trunk, one level earlier at 10+11 respectively. This was designed as a way to aid road recognition during planning - particularly on "Desktop". This could be the Layer to place the following objects: Therefore, we increase the It is worth remembering that we cannot override the tag-mapping rules - so Does this seem like an "obvious" approach and not something that'll cause confusion, eg: "How do I show the cycle path?" |

This idea is related to the 2nd part of the thread topic, so I'll post here and see how we go... In the previous (v3/v4) Cruiser, the 3D theme included a "Vegetation" Layer which turned off "the green stuff". Following a ride today, I am wondering if a return of that Layer would be useful to aid map contrast? It would be enabled by default so that the normal "Browse" map view is unchanged - but you have the option of turning off If you ride in a rural area, perhaps with lots of single-track I'm thinking that, whatever theme you use, the level of detail can be toggled to allow for full-detailed browsing of land features, buildings, shops etc but also be scaled-down (via the Layers menu) so that clear road (or off-road) outlines can take priority. |

Progress, not perfection... The VTM themes were also missing the green "protected" area hatched-pattern - this has now been restored in Biker+Light. I just need to check for behaviour/rule alignment across all XML theme files as I'm still finding silly mis-matches (eg: ferry lines) so fixing small things as I scroll through the file... Notepad++ has never had so many tabs open 🗒️ 🤷 |

@MotoUKRider @JimmyS83 Is there still work to be done in map themes here? |

Let's try to agree on something otherwise the Dark theme will remain "out of sync" with the main themes and if there's a chance of it being incorporated into Cruiser, we need to either remove this temporary Layer feature or finalize it and apply the changes to the other themes. Similar to what I wrote further up this thread, I propose we rename the "More road details" Layer to In short, this will remove some close-in features until zoom 17/18 by default. If you think this is a good move, please like/respond - and include your local translation of "More map detail" if you want to save me a bit of time 🤡 🗣️ |
