Excited to test it on the vintage iMac once it arrives - I'm planning to use it as a music box with jellyfin-tui and a home server monitor. Will let you know within a month after I test it on the real hardware (compiled on my laptop for now).

Disclaimer: I used slopGPT to make it happen as I mainly wanted to see if it is possible / do it for myself.

Summary:

jellyfin-tui building and running on 32-bit big-endian PowerPC Linux. The main changes needed were:

• libmpv2 bindings: enabled libmpv2-sys's use-bindgen feature so bindings are generated with the correct PPC32 ABI instead of using incompatible pre-generated layouts:

libmpv2-sys = { version = "4.0.1", features = ["use-bindgen"] }

with bindgen targeting powerpc-linux-gnu.

• Rustls: switched Rustls from its default aws-lc-rs provider to ring, since AWS-LC wasn't suitable for this PPC target. This required explicitly selecting/installing the ring crypto provider.

• Cross compilation: used the Gentoo PPC GCC/sysroot for C dependencies (ring, SQLite, libmpv) while Rust targets powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu.

• libmpv: built modern mpv/FFmpeg natively for PPC32 and linked jellyfin-tui against libmpv.so.2.

• For the QEMU test only, I used a G4 CPU model (QEMU_CPU=7455) and temporarily set mpv to ao=null, since the chroot has no ALSA device. Not needed when using real PPC hardware.

Result:

ELF 32-bit MSB pie executable, PowerPC, dynamically linked.
It launches, connects to Jellyfin, browses the library and starts playback under G4 emulation.
