dbeaver throws java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException on `set mode`

The following H2 configuration statement causes dbeaver to throw an exception:

SET MODE PostgreSQL;

java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index -1 out of bounds for length 16

The file is still formatted on spotless:apply and in most projects the entire spotless process succeeds, but sometimes the next formating step freezes.
