CitePoint

PowerPoint citations powered by Zotero.

CitePoint is an experimental Windows PowerPoint add-in that connects to a local Zotero Desktop library. It lets users search Zotero items, insert citations into slides, switch citation styles, and generate slide-level numeric references.

Current Status

  • Windows PowerPoint classic add-in: PPAM/PPA
  • Zotero companion add-on: Zotero 8.x
  • Current PowerPoint add-in version: 0.1.24
  • Current Zotero companion version: 0.2.8
  • macOS support is not included yet.

Main Features

  • Search Zotero items from PowerPoint.
  • Select one or multiple sources in the picker.
  • Filter by Zotero collections.
  • Insert APA, Chicago author-date, or IEEE-style numeric citations.
  • Refresh tracked citation groups after changing style.
  • Generate a slide-level numeric reference box.
  • Convert numeric citations such as [1,2,3] to superscript with one button.

Quick Install

Download the latest release from GitHub and install both parts:

  1. Install the Zotero companion .xpi in Zotero: Tools > Add-ons > gear icon > Install Add-on From File.
  2. Restart Zotero.
  3. Install the PowerPoint .ppam add-in: close PowerPoint, then run install-ppam.ps1 from the release folder.
  4. Reopen PowerPoint.
  5. In PowerPoint, use the Add-ins > CitePoint toolbar.

Zotero must be open while using CitePoint.

Important Notes

CitePoint is not an official Zotero or Microsoft product. It is a community prototype that uses Zotero locally on the same computer.

The project is currently focused on easy GitHub distribution for personal and small-community use. It is not published on Microsoft AppSource.
