Allow Forums to have Private Threads #5089

Great use case, I'd like to see private threads too, but frankly I just can't wait to get access to forums in general. |

Private threads would be very good and it's really important for support servers for companies. Currently I really miss it. |

I wanna bump this, I would love to be able to create a forum where people can create private posts between them and moderators, without other people being able to read their post. Trying to move away from using bots that create hundreds of channels for "mod mail" |

This would be great, but being able to prevent messages being sent in a pinned thread would also be great |

you can lock threads without closing/unpinning them now; that was not possible earlier |

Bump. Currently we rely on creating and destroying channels & roles to allow for temporary private threads. The issue is that we can then not search for older threads created as all discussion gets destroyed eventually |

Oh I see, thats so weird. The private thread option wont show if you use the create thread button of a message - only if you do it via the topbar. Thats way too unintuitive to recommend for my users anyway if Im going to be totally honest |

each message can only have one associated thread and it must be public. it would be confusing if you made a private thread on a message and then nobody else could make a thread on it. therefore private threads must be standalone threads, not message-started threads |

Bump! This is so needed and logical to have. We maintain projects in our server, one channel per project. We were thinking of creating forum channels for this but realised can't have a private thread (post) for the project organizers. Please, this is quite needed. |

Same. This is a given. Just like we have the ability to create private threads in text channels, we should have an ability to create private threads (posts) in forum channels. |

Bump, 3 years later this is still needed, and Surprised it hasn't been added yet, would make support channels a lot cleaner and easier to search old support questions. |

Hey,
i am the lead-developer on a 105k member discord server (704715447764779178) and we thought about rebuilding our support ticket system that is currently using private threads with the new forum channels.
Sadly, in the docs it's stated that forum channels will only contain public threads so such a rebuild wouldn't be possible.
In our ticket system we got multiple ticket types (report, ticket, bot-support, applications) you can select from a dropdown menu.
We thought about merging all the different ticket types into one channel and differate them internally for our mod team with tags while the user only sees his own created tickets since they are private threads.
So now the question: Are there any plans for maybe adding support for private threads in the future or will this definitly not happen? I mean there are definitly use cases for allowing private threads in forums as you can see.
