Countdown ticker based on percentage

Hello. I love the countdown tickers with a visual bar indicating the status and have been using it with different devices in my HA setup.
I would love to see this work with a sensor that has - state_class: measurement and unit_of_measurement: %

This would allow the same functionality that is currently available with timer entities and timestamp device_class.

Hi @shashankmittal, great idea — and a natural fit for the timer themes!

Added in v1.3.9.2. The countdown, hourglass, timer_pulse, and timer_ring themes now automatically detect when the entity's unit_of_measurement is % and use the sensor value directly as the progress bar fill (0 % = empty, 100 % = full). The time display shows the current percentage (e.g. 75%) instead of MM:SS.

No configuration changes needed — just point entity at any % sensor and pick a timer theme:

    theme: countdown
    message: Battery level

Works alongside the existing timer entity and timestamp device_class support — the card detects the sensor type automatically.

Hi. Thanks for considering this request!
Somehow I am unable to make it work. I have upgraded to 1.3.9.2 and using a battery percentage entity with the following attributes:

state_class: measurement
value: 100
unit_of_measurement: %
device_class: battery
icon: mdi:battery
friendly_name: Vacuum Basement Battery Level

The timer themes do not show up when I select this entity for a ticker. I have also restarted HA.

Hi @shashankmittal, found the root cause!

There was a bug in the alert evaluation logic. When no state condition is configured, the card was internally comparing the entity state against the string "undefined" — which of course never matched — so the alert silently stayed hidden. This bug affected all alerts that omit a state field, not just the % sensor case.

Fixed in v1.3.9.3. The state check is now skipped entirely when no state is configured, so the alert shows for any valid entity state — exactly as expected.

Your YAML (no state needed) will work after updating:

alerts:
  - entity: sensor.vacuum_basement_battery_level
    theme: countdown
    message: Battery level

Sorry for the confusion — the example in the release notes was correct in intent but the bug in the evaluation path prevented it from working.

Update — v1.3.9.4: one more fix for this.

Beyond the evaluation bug fixed in v1.3.9.3, the timer themes were also missing from the theme dropdown in the visual editor for % sensors.

The dropdown was built from a list that excluded the timer category entirely for non-timer.* entities — so even though the card logic supported % sensors, you couldn't select countdown/hourglass/etc from the UI. Fixed by always including the timer theme group in the full dropdown. Selecting a % sensor now also auto-suggests countdown as the default theme.

Full picture:

• v1.3.9.3 — alert evaluation bug: alerts without a state condition now show correctly
• v1.3.9.4 — editor bug: timer themes now appear in the dropdown for % sensors
